A Mother's Day Tale

I am writing this post so that hopefully I can inspire others to be more kind and giving to those less fortunate.  It doesn't take much to make someone's day be better and the feeling that you get from doing so will make a lasting impression.

Last year for around Mothers Day I had won a beautiful teak bench from Makobi Scribe.  It was rather unexpected as all of my winnings.  Just to let you know, I enter sweepstakes for fun and for me to fill my time.  Sometimes, I win something and keep it, but most of the time I give it away to family or people that would appreciate and use the items.  For non-believers, I encourage you to enter sweepstakes if you have the time.  I have won some very nice things, and they are always unexpected.

So as it turn out, I did not have a place to keep the bench.  I was living in a very small apartment, and thought maybe my mother might want it.  However, I felt that my mom already has too much stuff at her house, and this would be something else that she would store in the storage.  She hangs onto everything and it bothers me with the amount of things that is in her house, so that was out of the question.

Then, my boyfriend  had the idea to give it to this elderly lady who lived close to our shop.  She had nothing to sit on in the backyard, and the bench would be perfect for her. We did not know her very well, but I wanted to give it to someone who could use it and appreciate the beautiful bench.  My boyfriend brought it to her and got her grandson to stain and set it up.  From what I heard she loved it and was ecstatic that we gave her such a beautiful bench.  I wish that I could have met her and see her with the bench, and I hope that I had made her Mother's Day wonderful.

My family means the world to me #CHALLENGETOWRITE. Day 6

I have four boys, and my children inspires me on a daily basis to get up and accomplish things that I really don't want to do.  I have health issues that they are too young to understand, but I still feel that I should get up daily to take care of them.  Not everyone will understand my health issues, but my family has always been there for me when I need it the most.

When my youngest son looks at me and tells me that he wants a "kish", it brightens my day and makes me laugh.  He is always so in tuned with how I am feeling.  He asks me , "Mama are you okay?" if he thinks that I may have gotten a minor "boo, boo".  He is such a sweet and loving boy.

Likewise, my other boys are very independent.  They are popular, have friends, do well in school, and usually do their own things.  However, when they want or need something, they always look for me to help them out.  If something is wrong with me they will want to know if they can help.  All of my boys are sweet and loving overall.  Yes, they do have their moments, some of which I have in funny home videos.

Just the other day, my oldest stopped by to see me and curled up in my arms and said, "Mommy I missed you."; he is eighteen by-the-way.  Boys are never too old to need their moms, and I know that my boys will always be able to come to me if they need anything.

How to save on your Cable Bill

We are living in a post recession and many families are trying to make their dollar stretch.  With this being said, my family is no different.  One of the things that we were trying to save on is movie rentals, and after many discussions we felt that the best alternative would be Netflix.  I have been a Netflix user since they started the mail-order rentals, which was a cost effective way for us to watch movies.  Then, they added the  option for direct streaming.  By doing this their customer base expanded even more.  Since, the majority of what my family watched were movies and TV shows on the stream option, we decided to disconnect our cable completely.  Now, we only have to pay a low monthly subscription to stream shows and movies that we want to watch.   Of course the shows are one season behind, but with the savings and the wide selection available I do not mind the drawbacks so much.

Also, I feel that I have more control of what my children watch on TV, which is nice because  I don't have to worry too much about content.  They have parental controls on their site and even have a children's site when you login from the Wii or PlayStation. If I ever had a problem, their phone support has always been really thorough with getting me answers.  Overall, my experience has been really positive with them, and I know that I will remain a subscriber for years to come.
